TRD Sport Package - A look at the quickest and baddest Tundra available for the street enthusiast.

TRD Sport Package - A look at the quickest and baddest Tundra available for the street enthusiast.

What Toyota Tundra model offers the best combination of performance and style? What Tundra would command attention from a custom-truck show? Or a drag race? What Tundra is least likely to have an identical model show up in the same neighborhood? In other words, what's the most exclusive Tundra that can come out of the showroom? Try a Regular Cab/Standard Bed TRD Sport Edition. This is the hot rod Tundra with the biggest, most powerful engine saddled in the lightest chassis and body. It can't even be weighed down with the tow package because of the trick rear bumper. This baby is built for acceleration and styled for cruising. It has a sophisticated, street-smart monochromatic paint finish, 20-inch "dubs" and familiar TRD graphics. Available only in Radiant Red or Black, the TRD Sport Edition is also offered in the Double Cab. Regular Cab trucks, however, have the traditional stance and profile that many enthusiasts prefer. And they're the lightest for outstanding acceleration and fuel economy. The TRD Sport is also offered only with the Tundra Grade trim, so there aren't many options to weigh down the cab. Here's a reminder of the other features in the package:
Fog lights
Black interior
Cloth-covered bucket seats
Center console
Toyota Accessory billet-aluminum shift knob
Toyota Accessory pedal covers
Sliding rear window
Privacy glassThis is a one-off package with select sales goals. In other words, not many are scheduled for production. Split between two colors and two cab styles, the owner of a TRD Sport can rest assured that not many other identically equipped Tundras will be at the same weekend cruise. The TRD Sport is also a perfect platform for performance and aesthetic modifications. Start with a TRD supercharger that will boost the 5.7-liter V8 over 500 horsepower with 550 lb-ft of torque. Then add a Genuine Toyota color-keyed hard tonneau cover. Pump up the volume a little with the TRD dual side-exit, cat-back exhaust. There isn't much more the aftermarket can do to create the ultimate street truck. And it can all be covered by a Toyota warranty.

The Toyota Production System

Toyota Production System

  • Toyota has long been recognized as an industry leader in manufacturing and production. Three stories of its origin have been found, one that they studied Piggly-Wiggly's just-in-time distribution system, one that they followed the writings of W. Edwards Deming, and one that they were given the principles from an Army training program. It is possible that all are true. Regardless of the origin, the principles, described in Toyota's management philosophy, "The Toyota Way", are as follows
  • Base your management decisions on a long-term philosophy, even at the expense of short-term goals.
  • Create continuous process flow to bring problems to the surface# Use "pull" systems to avoid overproduction.
  • Level out the workload.
  • Build a culture of stopping to fix problems, to get quality right the first time.
  • Standardized tasks are the foundation for continuous improvement and employee empowerment.
  • Use visual control so no problems are hidden.
  • Use only reliable, thoroughly tested technology that serves your people and processes.
  • Grow leaders who thoroughly understand the work, live the philosophy, and teach it to others.
  • Develop exceptional people and teams who follow your company’s philosophy.
  • Respect your extended network of partners and suppliers by challenging them and helping them improve.
  • Go and see for yourself to thoroughly understand the situation (genchi genbutsu).
  • Make decisions slowly by consensus, thoroughly considering all options; implement decisions rapidly.
  • Become a learning organization through relentless reflection and continuous improvement.

Congrats

The 2010 Toyota Prius will cost less than the current 2009 model

The hybrid wars are intensifying this year, even as the market for Hybrids shrink.
Edmunds Inside Line reports, "The
2010 Toyota Prius will start at $22,750, including a $750 destination charge, when it goes on sale in late May. This is the first official confirmation from the Japanese automaker that its popular hybrid will be priced higher than the 2010 Honda Insight, which starts at $20,470 and went on sale March 24." But Toyota will make a move to counter the budget-priced Insight. "Toyota's pricing strategy includes the rollout later this year of the 2010 Toyota Prius I, a stripped-down base model that will start at $21,750." That is still more expensive than the Insight, but with the Prius returning 50 mpg to the Insight's 41, the value proposition may still make sense for many buyers.
The price cut means that Toyota has apparently abandoned plans to sell the
2009 Prius along side the 2010, as a more budget-conscious model. Autoblog notes that "Toyota's strategy in Japan was to keep the previous generation Prius in production to compete with the Insight on price. However, when we asked a Toyota spokesman in New York if the company evaluated the same option for the US, we were told Toyota decided against it."
The Prius will come in five trim levels, meaning that prices stretch from $21,750 to over $32,000.
